- Press Release Wednesday Jan 18, 2017
Subsequent to the ex-minister, Sule Lamido’s visit to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State has issued a statement labelling it as a solidarity visit which is shameful and a bad omen for nascent democracy of the country.
The State Chairman of the party, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, according to the statement he signed said it was surprising that Lamido, the onetime Governor of Jigawa State’s visit to Wike sounds like an endorsement to his administration notorious and lawless acts like killing of innocent people in the state.
Disclosing the statement, he said, the reason the governor embarrassed himself while commissioning the Ozuoba-Rumuoparaeli-Choba road on January 10 (two days after the sinister nocturnal visit) by handling a matchet in the public, threatening to cut down anyone who obstruct his way in Rivers State politics is now well understood.
Buttressing more, the state APC claimed that Lamido’s visit to the Governor was not for love, but focused on the interest of the State money which the Governor lavishes with no account.
We also sympathise with him as he was among the visiting dignitaries from the north that were stoned and shot by members of Grassroot Democratic Initative (GDI), the armed pressure group of Nyesom Wike, the Chairman said.
Calling for the arrest of Senator Lee Meaba, the State APC berated the statement of the Senator where he said “If they provoke us by fighting Governor Wike, they are placing Rivers State on a keg of gun powder, Rivers will explode, and Nigeria will suffer economically because there will be no oil to sponsor anything in this country. Enough is enough because very soon, we shall define our stay if the President does not define the peace we want in Rivers.”
He labelled the statement as a provocative one that could disturb the peace of the country and instigate the people of rivers state against President Buhari.
While concluding, the Chairman said the party urges the State Governor to be prepared for the necessary investigation on why and how the rerun election was marred with violence orchestrated by his agents now with his failure to stop the Police investigation of the December 10th rerun election through the Judiciary.
